Renal and Hepatic Outcome in Patients Treated with Interferon Alpha following Renal Transplant for Hcv Infection

چکیده
FIGURE 10-47 Renal and hepatic outcome in patients treated with interferon alpha post-renal transplant for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. Interferon treatment results in a high rate of transplant acute renal failure or rejection. Transplant biopsies in those with acute renal failure show severe diffuse edema. Acute renal failure is not very responsive to steroids. Virologic clearing is rare, as HCV-RNA is detectable, on average, 1 month after discontinuing interferon if the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) became negative during treatment. ALT— alanine aminotransferase; SC—subcutaneously; TIW—three times a week. (Data from Thervet and coworkers [21], Magnone and coworkers [22], Rostaing and coworkers [23,24], and Yasumura and coworkers [25].) Hepatitis C virus infection and acute or chronic glomerulonephritis: an epidemiological and clinical appraisal.
BACKGROUND The relationship between hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and acute or chronic glomerulonephritis (GN) is not well understood. METHODS Two hundred and eighty-four patients with biopsy-proven GN and other renal diseases were studied in a multicentre survey performed during the period 1992-1995. Several clinical parameters were collected for each patient at the time of renal biopsy....
متن کاملبررسی تأثیر عفونت هپاتیت ویروسی B و C بر بقای کلیه پیوندی در بیماران دریافتکننده کلیه
Background and Aim: Chronic liver disease and its complications are major problems in renal transplant recipients. Hepatitis B and C virus infections are currently the main causes of chronic liver disease in this group, and these may affect allograft outcome. Whether hepatitis B and C virus infections after renal transplantation adversely affect graft and patient survival, remains controver...
متن کاملLow hepcidin triggers hepatic iron accumulation in patients with hepatitis C.
Persistent hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major cause of chronic liver disease including fibrosis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Chronic hepatitis C (CHC) is also a problem in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), particularly in those on haemodialysis. Excessive iron in the liver of CHC patients contributes to hepatic fibrosis, cirrhosis and finally HCC, while iro...
متن کاملDetermination of HCV Genotypes among Chronic Hepatic Patients in Ahvaz
Background and Aims: Chronic hepatitis C is one of the most important etiologies of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide. Clinical condition of hepatic patients and the outcome of chemotherapy are under impact of Hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotypes. Therefore, HCV genotyping is important for prediction of success of chemotherapy and progression of liver diseases. Methods: In thi...
متن کاملManagement of the Kidney Transplant Patient with Chronic Hepatitis C Infection
Chronic Hepatitis C (HCV) infection is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with end-stage renal disease. Renal transplantation confers a survival advantage in HCV-infected patients. Renal transplant candidates with serologic evidence of HCV infection should undergo a liver biopsy to assess for fibrosis and cirrhosis. Patients with Metavir fibrosis score ≤3 and compensated ...
